Arowana FAQs
How much does an arowana cost in the UK?
Silver Arowana start from £100 and Jardini Arowana from £150. Rarer Asian arowana such as Batik and Super Red 24K are priced from £3,000. Premium varieties including Malaysian Golden Crossback, Blue Base Crossback, Albino Super Red, and Red Tail Golden (RTG) are priced on application — contact us for current pricing.
Do I need a licence to own an Asian arowana in the UK?
You do not need a personal licence, but the fish must be captive-bred, microchipped, and accompanied by a valid CITES Article 10 certificate. We supply all Asian arowana with full CITES documentation. It is illegal to buy or sell Asian arowana without this paperwork.
What is the difference between RTG and Malaysian Golden Crossback?
The Red Tail Golden (RTG) has gold scales extending to the fourth row from the belly, with a reddish tail. The Malaysian Golden Crossback has gold scales crossing all six rows to the back — making it rarer and generally more valuable. Both are available from Planet Arowana.
What tank size do I need for an arowana?
Adult arowana require a minimum of around 250 gallons (approximately 1,000 litres). The tank should be long rather than tall, as arowana are surface-dwelling fish. A tight-fitting, secure lid is essential — arowana are powerful jumpers.
Can you deliver arowana to Europe?
Yes, we deliver across the UK and Europe where import is permitted. Delivery starts from £30 using specialist fish couriers. Contact us to discuss delivery to your specific country.
What is a Blue Base Crossback arowana?
The Blue Base Crossback is a rare variety of Malaysian Golden Crossback arowana distinguished by a striking blue or violet base colouration beneath the gold scales. It is one of the most visually spectacular Asian arowana and is available from Planet Arowana — contact us for availability and pricing.
